What is V2X?

With the growing need for road safety, incident alerts and traffic flow optimization, the need for an intelligent transportation system becomes paramount. Instilling smartness in the automobiles and the overall road ecosystem is the path forward.
Vehicle autonomy is facilitated by two competing wireless technologies – 802.11p based DSRC and 3GPP defined C-V2X, which allow direct communication over the 5.9GHz ITS band. Furthermore, with C-V2X being a cellular technology optimized for transportation it enables network assisted communication using LTE/5G NR.

Why is testing V2X Critical?

Harnessing the true potential of the technology, V2X communication is revolutionizing the automotive industry. There is a broad range of uses cases involving vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-network (V2N) communication. However, since the communication involves heavy exchange of data between multiple entities at extremely high speeds, ensuring robust performance and reliability becomes crucial.

From the deployment perspective, none of the two technologies have been mandated.
